Kayak Paddles: Versa Supported Kayak Paddle by Angle Oar - Image 3571

Torn rotator cuffs, physical disabilities or limited upper body strength don’t have to keep you from paddling. Our goal is getting people out on the water who didn’t think they had the strength or endurance to kayak and keeping experienced paddlers there longer! By supporting the weight of the paddle and using a smaller range of motion, our mount-supported Versa paddle and Gamut Paddle Holder reduce stress on shoulders, wrists and other joints. They are a “must have” for adaptive paddling programs, accessible parks, disabled veterans, physical therapy programs, or anyone who wants to enjoy the beauty of nature but may have been limited by injury, ability, health condition or age.

Overview

Versa is used by adaptive kayaking and veterans programs, physical therapists, and accessible rental and retail outlets. An attachable mount supports the weight of the paddle, alleviating stress on shoulders, back and joints and creating a smaller range of motion. It’s perfect for paddlers with injuries or disabilities (including one arm), older adults, anglers, or recreational kayakers who want to paddle with less effort. Use it angled or straight, on or off the mount.
We designed Versa to keep kayakers as independent and active as possible and to get new paddlers out on the water for the first time! Our customers include paddlers with one arm, children with autism, amputees, and people with quadriplegia, tendonitis, torn shoulder labrums and cerebral palsy. Versa comes with a hinged mount that attaches to most sit-in kayaks in about 15 minutes and can be removed when not in use. For ultimate energy efficiency, use Versa in the mount, either straight or angled downward to roughly 25 degrees. Versa can be also moved forward or backward on the mount, helping you achieve the ideal distance between your torso and the paddle. With a gentle tug, Versa can be popped out of the mount and used like a traditional paddle. Each shaft can be shortened or lengthened from 205 to 240 cm to compensate for the wind or the width of the kayak. The shafts are also removable for easy storage.

Versa paddle opens up new kayaking possibilities for people with shoulder or back injuries, joint problems, disabilities or and other health or strength conditions. A hinging mount attaches to the sit-in kayak, supporting the weight of the paddle and reducing joint stress. Using a gentle rotary movement of the forearms (much like pedaling a bicycle with your hands), you'll glide through the water with minimal effort. In the angled position, the smaller range of motion is ideal for people with the use of one limb or who want to preserve what remaining shoulder function they have.

What Users Are Saying

I couldn't believe how much of a difference having the Versa paddle made, but it did, and seeing how far I was able to travel by myself is the proof. I will NEVER go back to using a regular paddle.

My shoulder problem was preventing me from kayaking. I tried out this Versa paddle and couldn't believe the difference. I went on a three-hour outing and had no pain whatsoever.
