The West Coast of British Columbia is wild, beautiful, and home to some of the best sea kayaking on the planet. Adventurous explorers had long been using sea kayaks as the craft of choice to travel these magnificent waters when Brian Henry started paddling the coastal waterways. But Brian was a visionary, and as time went by, he saw the need for better boats and equipment for true kayak enthusiasts. It was at this moment in the late 1970’s Current Designs was born. Today, Current Designs and its parent company Wenonah Canoe continue to operate with the same values that trace back to their first boats; innovation, superior construction, performance, and extraordinary service.

So I have the 2024 kestrel 120 r. Sorry to say, but not the best investment one could make. Tracks well, lightweight. Extremely uncomfortable, completely unstable, cheaply built, very hard to find accessories, or upgrades. Bought brand new, unwrapped it, went out for about an hour (couldn't sit in it any longer) rear compartment had about 2 inches of water. Hatch cover does not seal. Within 3 months of ownership, 2 tabs for the rear hatch broken. (Plastic becomes brittle) Slipped once getting in and broke the plastic footrest. Still cannot find replacement parts. Wanted to get a spray skirt, can't find them for this model. Would love outriggers... Not close to stable as advertised, in fact, one of the more unstable designs that I've been in. The very first thing to upgrade would be the seat, get yourself some cushions, you'll need them, and if you have back issues, the factory seats will only make it worse. I've paddled $100 kayaks. Paddled $3,000+ kayaks. Paid a little over $1,000 for this one, and I'll never do it again. If you're new to kayaking, or not very experienced, this would not be a kayak that I would recommend. Stick with the cheap ones, and learn what you want and expect from kayaking before committing to an expensive not so fun, toy.
