In the early eighties, professional cabinet maker Alain Rhéaume turned his wood working skills towards the art of canoe building. Since that first canoe model, the product line has grown to include over 20 canoes, several display canoes and canoe bookcases. Almost every part on the boats and bookcases are handcrafted. The lacing for our rawhide seats, the hand caning and steam bent parts are all made at our factory in Saint-Tite, Québec. The love of fine wooden cedar boats inspires our craftsmen everyday and we love nothing more than to see our craftsmanship reflected on the surface of a calm lake or a river.

Overview

The Prospecteur 15 ‘is an ideal canoe for people wishing to paddle solo or in tandem. Given its light weight, it is easy to carry on portages, even in more restricted areas. The somewhat “V” design of the hull, as well as its very moderate width, allow an easy navigation both solo and in tandem. The Prospector 15 is suitable for any type of paddler. Its weight and size are significant assets that make expeditions with a lot of portage much more enjoyable. It is ideal can

I bought my Prospector 15 canoe in the spring of 2022 and spent most of the summer on the water. I chose the kevlar version for its lightness and its solidity. The gunwales are made of cherry wood and the paint is two tones of forest green and white. I added skid plates to protect the tips and the kneeling bar to facilitate solo maneuvers. The interior finish is made of innegra fiber, more durable than the standard finish. I am very pleased with the result. The canoe behaves very well on the water, it is stable when kneeling, even in strong winds, but obviously a bit more sloping when sitting. The length of 15 feet allows a good compromise between the load capacity and the ease of traveling solo. It allows two people to leave with all the canoe-camping equipment for several days, but also allows for nice solo trips. The kneeling bar does its job very well. Even though it is only a carved wooden bar, it is still comfortable to use for several hours. The position of the canoeist is excellent. No fatigue, no pain. The yoke is also relatively comfortable. With a weight of no more than 50 pounds, you can carry the canoe on your back without any problem for several miles. My canoe is beautiful, and on the water, it turns heads.
